The Brandywine Conservancy, a Chadds Ford-based nonprofit, has announced that its efforts to preserve the nearby Beaver Valley property in Concord are nearing completion, writes Michael Rellahan for the Daily Local News.

The plan to save the Beaver Valley property that adjoins the First State Heritage National Park was first announced last November. To preserve the space, Concord has committed $500,000 from its open space fund, and Delaware County has committed $250,000 out of the required $8 million.

The movement to preserve the 240 acres of Beaver Valley as an open space has truly been a grassroots effort, with 1,500 individuals in the community making donations.

“As of April 18, we needed to raise a final $700,000 toward our goal of $8 million,” the conservancy wrote in an e-mail to its followers. “The community’s response has been overwhelming with $525,000 raised in two days!”

Meanwhile, the nearby Crebilly Farm property has been pegged by Toll Brothers for the development of more than 300 homes. But Westtown Township’s Board of Supervisors is still holding hearings on the developer’s proposal.
