Run, walk, or lend a hand this Saturday, April 1 at Chester County Hospital’s 23rd Annual Dash 4 Diabetes.

It’s a step in the right direction to benefit the hospital’s Diabetes Self-Management Program.

There’s something for everyone — and every age — at this rain-or-shine community event, including a 5K race and 2.5K walk for adults, plus the Arthur Hall Insurance Kids Fun Run for those 12 and under. Rammy, West Chester University’s mascot, will trot along with the kids.

“We’re proud of how this event has grown, and that it supports the 900-plus participants in Chester County Hospital’s Diabetes Self-Management Program,” said Kyle DeMarino, who co-chairs the race with Luigi Capriotti.

Both started working the Dash 4 Diabetes as a service project when they were students at Henderson High School. The Diabetes Self-Management Program is a comprehensive instructional program, accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators, which provides diabetes education and resources for lifelong management of the disease.

Registration is $30 on Race Day. Kids Fun Run participants pay just $10; kids 12 and under with diabetes are invited to participate free of charge.

Registration opens at 2:30 PM on Saturday in front of the Chester County Justice Center, located at 201 West Market Street in West Chester. Free parking is available nearby in the Justice Center Parking Garage at 220 West Market Street.

The races taking place through nearby sections of the borough start at 3:30 PM with the Kids Fun Run; the 5K and 2.5K adult races start at 4 PM.

Awards include first through third place overall in the men’s and women’s divisions, as well as the top three male and female dashers in each age group. The Kennedy Marie Canzoneri Award will go to the athlete with diabetes who finishes first. The awards and an all-ages after-party with complimentary appetizers and drink specials will take place at Kildare’s of West Chester immediately following the race.

Those not interested in racing but who want to support the cause may donate toward the $10,000 goal via check or online donation. Checks made payable to CCHF Dash may be mailed to The Chester County Hospital Foundation, 701 East Marshall Street, West Chester, Pa. 19380.
