Immaculata Symphony

The Immaculata Symphony – a university-community organization, with an outstanding tradition that dates back to the school’s founding in 1920 – will hold its Spring Concert, Leonard Bernstein Centennial, on Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 PM on campus in Alumnae Hall.

Joseph Gehring will conduct the symphony in a tribute to Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990). As a composer, conductor, educator, and humanitarian, Bernstein is regarded as a singular figure in American cultural history.

The symphony will perform a sampling of his works for stage and concert hall with music from Candide, On the Town, and West Side Story. Percussionist Ralph Sorrentino will perform a work for solo snare drum and orchestra.

Stroud Water Research Center

As a result of a generous gift from brothers Greg, Barry, Keith, and Ray Bentley, the Chester County Council Boy Scouts of America and Stroud Water Research Center are expanding their partnership to offer additional outdoor and environmental STEM programs.

Steve Kerlin, the Stroud Center’s Director of Education, described the partnership as “a natural fit for the two organizations. Boy Scout programs offer leadership development, and many conservation-related badges, awards, and service projects align with the mission of the Stroud Center to promote knowledge and stewardship of freshwater systems through global research, education, and watershed restoration.”

“We are in the business of changing lives, and this generous gift from the Bentley brothers will help us accomplish that,” said Scout Executive Charles E. Rogers Jr. of the Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America.

The book co-authored by Bob George and Joan Holliday won the first-place award for nonfiction in the 2018 Communications Contest held by Delaware Press Association, an advocate for excellence in communications in Delaware for more than 40 years.

The Story of Kennett is not a story in the conventional sense, but a collection of reports, testimonials, and chronicles that together form a tapestry that presents a vivid portrait of an evolving, compassionate, and ambitious community.
