Idyllic surroundings not too far removed from the city have often lured Philadelphia’s elite into settling in Chester County, writes Clara Lefton for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Established in 1682 by William Penn as one of the original three counties in the state, Chester County offers potential residents real estate ranging from expensive mansions settled on lush grounds to townhomes available to students attending West Chester University.

Using listings from Realtor.com, the Journal has compiled a list of the 35 priciest properties currently on the market.

The most-expensive properties currently on sale range from a cool $2.15 million for a five-bedroom home in Malvern to a few bucks shy of $11 million for the eight-bedroom Heartwood Farm in the center of Radnor Hunt.

The majority of the homes on sale range from $2 million to $3 million and include some true gems, like the classic farm Alnwyck in Coatesville for $2.19 million.

Those with deeper pockets should consider Kennett Square’s Wyndemere Farm, an enchanting property of 295 acres of flora and fauna with a gorgeous stone house listed at $8.5 million.
