Dozens of Coatesville area police officers took a break from chasing crime sprees to help 78 local children go on Christmas shopping sprees.

The 14th year of their popular Shop with a Cop program featured breakfast with Santa, a police-led parade procession, and $125 shopping sprees at the Wal-Mart in Parkesburg, according to a report in The Times of Chester County by Lauren Parker-Gill.

“The three months of planning and five hours of controlled chaos is worth it when you see the incredible interaction between the youth and the officers,” Coatesville Sergeant Rodger Ollis said. “I’m hopeful that the short period of time creates everlasting constructive relationships between law enforcement and those touched by the program.”

For kids nominated to participate, Shop with a Cop offers an inside look at the family life of law-enforcement officers, and it helps build relationships.
