Oxford Native, Business Prodigy Named New CEO of Lands’ End

By

Jerome Griffith

lands-endA business prodigy from Oxford who lives in The Hamptons and has traveled the world has packed his bags at luggage retailer Tumi, and is now headed far from the East Coast — to Lands’ End.

Jerome Griffith will become the new CEO of Wisconsin-based Lands’ End beginning in March, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal by Suzanne Kapner and Joann S. Lublin.

Griffith’s career journey has thus far taken him from a 1975 Oxford High School graduation and Penn State marketing degree to the inner offices of some of the world’s most-renowned fashion and travel brands, including Esprit, Tommy Hilfiger, and another catalog-focused retailer, J. Peterman Co.

“His strengths are in the area of brand positioning, products, and marketing,” former Tumi chairman Joseph Gromek said. Tumi was acquired this year by Samsonite.

He’ll need all of it to revitalize Lands’ End, which has struggled since its 2014 Sears spinoff, having fallen from $73.8 million in the black to $19.5 million in the red under former CEO Federica Marchionni. If he can hit turnaround targets, Griffith will double his $950,000 salary and cash in on benefits of $7 million in restricted stock units and stock options, plus a long-term $1.9 million incentive.
