It’s been nearly 15 years since the equine industry’s last ride through the statistical countryside, so the Chester-Delaware County Farm Bureau is seeking to reshoe its data to see how tall the equine industry now stands.

The online Southeastern Pennsylvania Equine Industry Survey will measure the 10-county region’s economic impact in order to inform and educate state and local elected officials, industry stakeholders, and the community at large. Back in 2003, a statewide effort found that the industry encompassed 215,693 horses and contributed $1.12 billion to the economy.

Administered by the Agribusiness and Equine Science and Management Departments of Delaware Valley University, the survey aims to ask all those involved in any equine activities to answer questions regarding equine population, output, final demand, employment, household income, and tax revenue. Individual responses should be unidentifiable, and will be kept confidential, with only the aggregate totals released.

Participants will be entered into a drawing for $500 in prizes.
