round-1-bowling-amusement-77821339As of Friday, it was game on for the Exton Mall’s newest attraction: Round 1.

Arcade games, bowling, karaoke, billiards, darts, and ping pong are all set to fill 58,000 square feet of prime former JCPenney space, and the doors opened Friday, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report by Jacob Adelman.

The new hub for all things entertainment has thrived in its homeland of Japan, and the Exton Mall is Round 1’s 12th store in the six years since it landed on U.S. soil.

“We’re still minor compared to the household name brand we built in Japan,” Director of Business Development Shane Kaji said. “It will take until store 30 or 40 or 50 before we’re nationally recognized here.”

What sets Round 1 apart is its Japanese flavor, which is striking a chord with a generation of Americans who grew up watching anime and playing Pokemon. The company aims to open 10 more stores per year.

“Our instincts tell us that (Round 1) is a unique kind of tenant that we think is going to do well in this market,” said Joseph Coradino, CEO of Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust, which owns the mall.
