Chris Ross Retires from Politics After Two Decades as State Rep

By

Chris Ross

Chris Ross, who reaffirmed the trust of his constituency when he voted against a pay raise for members of the state general assembly in 2005, is retiring from political life after two decades, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

Ross had originally planned to retire two years ago, but his plans were postponed when Republican leadership asked him to stay on after Cuyler Walker unexpectedly dropped out of the race. He will be turning his seat over to Eric Roe, a political newcomer who beat his Democratic opponent in the recent election.

One of the main things Ross has learned during his tenure was the art of compromise. He said it was crucial to find common ground on bills that benefitted Chester County, but also other areas in the state.

Reflecting on that crucial pay raise decision 11 years ago, Ross said he was surprised by how strong the public’s reaction was to the measure.

“Clearly, the public does not want to see pay increase for legislators,” he said. “They were more appalled by the fact that we voted ourselves an increase.”
