The Garage Community and Youth Center is a non-profit, community-based youth organization with two centers located in Kennett Square and West Grove. Nearly 65 percent of its students are Latino immigrants, 30 percent are African-American, and 90 percent are from economically disadvantaged families. The Garage Community and Youth Center’s mission is to empower youth to pursue their potential academically, relationally, and spiritually. And its priority is to develop relationships with students, and to provide them with both a place to belong and the resources to excel.

Graduate Coordinator

This is a newly created position that will be responsible for advising upper-class high school students and alumni on their available post-secondary options. This must include building strong relationships with students and alumni; learning their passions, talents, and aspirations; and guiding them through the processes of discovery into a college/university, training program, or job. This position must thoroughly understand the college admissions process, including exploration, the application phase, and financial aid. He/she will make connections with local post-secondary education and training programs, seek out available funding sources for students, and oversee their applications.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Higher Education Counseling/Student Affairs, Sociology, Education, etc.). He/she should have at least three years of experience in working with high school or college students on college admissions, financial aid, post-secondary counseling, etc.

The person will have the demonstrated ability to relate to at-risk youth and develop trusting relationships, and will have strong interpersonal skills, including excellent oral and written communications skills. The candidate should be detail-oriented and able to track and monitor student goals and progress in an internal data system.
