The Carter Community Development Corporation, together with the Kennett Square and Kennett Township police departments, are getting ready to celebrate the Sixth National Night Out Celebration, according to a staff report from Daily Local News.

The town’s police department and school-age community members have been gathering for the past five years on the first Tuesday in August to celebrate the ever growing success of community policing. This year it is on August 2nd from 5 to 7 p.m. in the 200 and 300 blocks of East Linden Street in Kennett Square.

This year, the event will be much larger, as Kennett Township and its growing police force are also participating in the community policing initiative. The evening will provide a relaxed environment for school- age community residents to interact with their local police department to help create a stronger bond and foster relationships.

In addition, Lafayette and Center streets–as well as the Granite Ridge Apartment Complex—will have “ice-cream mobiles,” where youth and police officers will be able to talk over an ice-cream bar, enjoy some fun with the siren on the police car, and take selfies with the officers.

Other similar events around the county include Caln Police Department’s event at 6 p.m. at the Caln Municipal Park on Municipal Drive in Thorndale, while Phoenixville residents will be able to attend a community meeting from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The West Chester Police Department will hold their event on August 3rd at Borough Hall.
