Former “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart has once again shown his dedication to helping animals by providing a home for Lily, the 20-year-old Arabian discovered at New Holland Sales Stables tied up and in excruciating pain after being shot by over a hundred paintballs at close range, writes Kara Seymour for Patch.

Lily was quickly transferred to the New Bolton Center in Chester County which provided her with excellent treatment. Due to severity of the wounds, her right eye was surgically removed, while her left eye had to be treated for a large ulcer. However, thanks to the swift actions of the dedicated experts at New Bolton, Lily avoided complete blindness and still has some sight in her left eye.

She was released from the hospital last month into the care of the Omega Horse Rescue & Rehabilitation Center in Airville, York County.

“Oh my God, she’s phenomenal,” enthused Omega director Kelly Smith on Friday. “You wouldn’t recognize her, she’s a different horse.” Since her treatment began Lily has gained several hundred pounds, and has easily adapted to having only one eye, added Smith.

Thanks to Stewart, who owns an animal sanctuary in New Jersey with his wife Tracy, Lily will get a chance to spend her final years in a loving home surrounded by other animals.
