Hearing calls from green activists to focus more on renewable sources of energy, Peco Energy Co. has announced plans to create a “stakeholder collaborative” to help advance local solar energy, writes Andrew Maykuth for Philly.com.

The utility has been the target of protests by the Earth Quaker Action Team which is trying to get the company to support solar projects in low-income neighborhoods.

In response, the company said on Friday that it is planning to invite all the major stakeholders to its summer discussions on possible solar initiatives, among them solar supporters and representatives of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission with representatives of EQAT also welcome.

“We have a proven track record of environmental leadership,” said Craig Adams, Peco’s president and hcief executive. “We also have a very successful history of working with collaboratives like this to provide advanced energy services, choices, and programs for our customers.”
