Chadds Ford Designer Amanda Phelan Turns Heads at New York Fashion Week
Young Chadds Ford fashion designer Amanda Phelan made a daring move to break the fashion mold one stunning stride after another during New York Fashion Week, and her quickly-rising brand of artistic fashion continues to turn heads in Chester County and beyond.
“I want to create experiences for people that leave them tingling,” Phelan said in a Philly.com feature by Elizabeth Wellington.
With a runway show accompanied by a choreographed dance routine, she set off her movement-inspired style — and asserted a next-generation “conscious fashion” movement attentive to diversity, philanthropy and fair-wage manufacturing.
“It’s up to the up-and-coming designers to create a new format, not be afraid to take risks and do what’s best for them,” Phelan said in the article.
And big names are taking notice.
“Get ready to hear a lot more about Phelan: The new label by former Alexander Wang knitwear designer Amanda Phelan launched this afternoon with a bang,” Vogue reviewer Maya Singer wrote.
Phelan’s fall 2016 collection is being carried by Nordstrom, H. Lorenzo and Harvey Nichols, and her unique work is being worn by Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg and celebrity Kim Kardashian, with requests from Rihanna and Lena Dunham.
To arrive at such attention-grabbing innovation, Phelan has translated her painter’s artistry to the loom through modern engineering software and a passion driven by a stark realization that life is short.
“Nothing should stop you from daring to do what you are meant to do,” she said in the Philly.com article.
