Following a successful career in photography, Chester County’s Rick Davis has taken a big step and decided to challenge himself by changing the focus of his business from photographic advertising and corporate work to video production.

The West Chester Henderson graduate started his portrait photographer career in West Chester in 1973, and his company, Rick Davis Photographic, has been at its current location as for the last three decades, writes Brian McCullough for Daily Local News.

Now, after nearly 45 years of photography, Davis is changing directions. His new business, which he will be running together with lead producer Colleen Mullen, will now be known as Savvy Video Production.

“What keeps me young is getting up every day and having something new to do, to have new problems to solve,” said Davis talking about his new positions as owner and creative director of a video-first company. “As a still photographer, each image has to be strong. With video, it’s more of a challenge because you are capturing the essence of the whole thing in one piece of work.”

Davis and Mullen describe their new business as a smart and scalable production company which will offer its client base full HD/UHD and 4K digital video. The studio where Davis and Mullen now work with their crew of lighting, sound, and other specialists, has green screen capabilities as well as the biggest egg cyclorama in the region, including Philadelphia.

Mullen, who has a Master’s Degree in Communication, Advertising and Media Production from  Villanova University, used to work as QVC’s talent service coordinator before answering an opening placed by Davis for a studio manager and producer.

“He liked my spunk,” recalled Mullen, who showed up for an interview after an overnight shift at QVC.

The company officially started working six month ago, and has already completed projects for several clients in the health care field, including a series of patient experience videos from Chester County Hospital for Penn Medicine. Davis is already optimistic about the future of the new enterprise pointing out that “We’re hoping to grow Savvy pretty aggressively in the next six months.”
