Weekend Blizzard in the Forecast for Chester County

By

Strasburg Road last March after a huge snow storm blew through Chester County.

A storm cell with the power to unleash a blizzard has its bull’s-eye set on Chester County and a large swath of the Northeast — for the moment. It’s still days away, but the first real storm of the winter could be on its way.

“There are ways out of this,” AccuWeather’s Bernie Rayno said in a Phoenixville Patch report. “But that is the potential if everything works right. It would be a big one.”

The storm’s estimated time of arrival is sometime Friday, and it is likely to stick around throughout Saturday with 6 inches to 2 feet of snow and nor’easter winds of 50 mph.

“In addition to the potential for substantial accumulating snow, gusty winds could cause additional issues with blowing and drifting,” the Patch article stated, citing a National Weather Service Hazardous Weather Outlook.

The combination of heavy snow and strong winds could wreak havoc on highways and airports.

However, it was only crossing California on Tuesday, headed for a dip toward the Gulf of Mexico and a bounce back up over the southern Appalachians Thursday. If the storm veered north by 50 to 100 miles, it could turn the I-95 snowfall into rain or freezing rain.
