Coatesville’s Water Treatment Plant Recognized for its Exceptional Water Quality

Rock Run Water Treatment Plant, the Pennsylvania American Water facility located in West Caln Township, hosted a rewarding event on Thursday where the plant’s employees received the Phase III Directors Award from the Partnership for Safe Water.

The Partnership is a voluntary utility program created by the EPA, AWWA, as well as other organizations in the industry, which focuses on improving the quality and safety of water by optimizing operations.

The Coatesville facility provides drinking water to close to 12,000 customers in western Chester County, and has participated in the Partnership program for fifteen years.

“Our Rock Run team worked very hard to earn the Directors Award, and this honor is a reflection of their expertise and dedication to provide our local customers with the highest possible water quality,” said Robert Burton, the Senior Director of Operations for Pennsylvania American Water.

CSA’s Help Students Achieve Educational Goals

While research shows that higher education in the country is becoming more out of reach for low-income students, it has also determined that students belonging to that category who have accumulated up to $500 in college savings are much more likely to both enroll in college, and to graduate.

In order to take advantage of this, the City of Oakland has announced the launch of its Oakland Promise initiative, which aims to provide every child that starts kindergarten with an automatic CSA with an initial deposit and additional incentives to save further.

To get support for this initiative across the country, CFED and its partners across the U.S. have launched the Campaign for Every Kid’s Future to bring attention to the children’s savings movement. The aim is to empower millions more children to achieve post secondary success by having a CSA in their name.

PennDOT to Invest $97.4 Million in Route 422 Improvements

PennDOT has announced that it has awarded a $97.4 million contract to improve Route 422. It is expected that work on the project will start in early February and finish in May 2020.

The project, which will be financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds, will be used to build wider bridges over the Schuylkill River as well as to upgrade the highway between the Route 363 and Route 23 interchanges in West Norriton, Lower Providence, Upper Merion and Tredyffrin townships.

“The awarding of this contract is a significant milestone in the plan to move traffic more efficiently on this heavily congested stretch of U.S. 422 by expanding the aging eastbound and westbound bridges between the Route 363 and Route 23 interchanges, and by improving the highway and ramps in this area,” said PennDOT District Executive Kenneth M. McClain.
