New Malvern Mansion Is Entertainer’s Dreamhouse

It took two years, but an entertainer’s dreamhouse has risen in Malvern around a vision of an immaculate kitchen for a local CEO with a passion for cooking and his wife, a doctor.

“It’s so massive,” Bluebell Kitchens Owner Peter Cardamone said of the once-in-a-lifetime project in a Main Line Today feature. “It was like trying to design a kitchen within a cathedral.”

Photos-11The full-scale catering kitchen boasts a commercial pizza oven within a two-story stone wall, appliances and cabinetry paneled with rosewood and Macassar ebony, a two-level island sporting black granite, a 60-inch stove with a custom artistic hood and an entire separate prep room, not to mention an outdoor kitchen with two fire pits near the pool and Jacuzzi.

“The owner wanted the kitchen to be a stage,” Cardamone said. “His cooking is extremely interactive, so he wanted a large island where he could fit about a dozen people comfortably.”

The rest of the Mountain Vernacular-style home’s 14,000 square feet along the historic Horse-Shoe Trail, designed by Paoli’s R.A. Hoffman Architects and constructed by Devon-based Spire Builders, showcases indigenous fieldstone, a three-sided fireplace, a curved hanging staircase, black slate tile floor and an 850-gallon fish tank.

Photos-05“You don’t see many houses like this on the Main Line, and that’s what made it so fun to design,” Rene Hoffman said in the article.

“Everything about it — from its size to the materials used — was unique,” builder Peter Jonak added. “It’s a project that certainly doesn’t come along often.”
