Beacon Technology Entering Second Wave, Says Malvern’s Bill Carr

According to Bill Carr, the Chief Mobility Architect at Malvern based technology and security solutions provider Comm Solutions, Beacon Technology is hitting its second wave.

The technology, that takes advantage of vertical market opportunities where end users are looking to provide proximity and embrace onsite customer engagement, started off with retail and has now spread to more lucrative markets such as stadiums, museums, opera houses, and other big venues.

However, demand is expanding again as there is now interest from fields such as healthcare, hospitality, and higher education. In addition to its original use, these markets are attempting to leverage Beacon Technology for things like analyzing usage patterns to gather information on the most frequently used areas and how to optimize customer flow through facilities.

“They’re also interested in some of the analytics that they’ve been unable to get from their wireless LAN side today with wireless analytics,” noted Carr.
