boy-machinesFrom just keeping up with customer demand to tackling the future, the company behind Boy Machines in Exton is creating big opportunities for its small-tonnage injection molding machines.

Over the past decade, Boy Machines and its original German firm, Dr. Boy GmbH, have ramped up their automation technology, chairman Helga Schiffer said in a Plastics News report by Bill Bregar.

“We followed our customers, and they asked for (more automation),” managing partner Alfred Schiffer said. “They reduce their technical personnel because of the availability, not because they want to.”

And the next 10 years will be marked by further expansion of insert molding, LSR, multicomponent molding, micromolding, powder injection molding, and elastomer molding.

“We want to be more and more the one who solved the problem,” Alfred Schiffer said. “And this is difficult because the machine that molds the part and just drops it into the box, this is becoming more and more difficult for us to reach the necessary selling price.”
