On Saturday, head to The Anselma Mill for A Lenape Living History Day. Samuel Lightfoot built the Mill at Anselma in 1747 after he purchased five hundred acres of land from Joseph Pike. Joseph Pike had purchased the land from William Penn. Even though Penn had been given the land by King Charles II, he negotiated a treaty to purchase with goods that part of Lenapehoking that was the become Penn’s Woods (Pennsylvania). To the Lenape, land was for the use of every living thing and the earth was to be treated well to nourish all beasts, birds, fish, and man for all generations and did not belong to anyone. On Saturday, go back to the time of the Lenapehoking to experience life as a Lenape.
