On this day in 1908, Henry Ford introduced his Model T automobile to the market, the first section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, described as America’s first superhighway, opened to the public in 1940, and in 1961, Yankees right-fielder Roger Maris hit his 61st home run, besting Babe Ruth’s 60 home run record.

On Thursday the Schuylkill River Heritage Center hosts their annual Heritage Award Celebration this year honoring former Congressman Jim Gerlach at the Foundry in Phoenixville beginning at 6:00.

On Friday, October 2nd, Sunset Hill Fine Arts Gallery at 23 North High Street, West Chester hosts an exhibit of Gregory Blue’s most recent works of art as part of West Chester’s 25th Annual Gallery Walk beginning at 5:00 PM.
