Chester County Leads Philly’s Collar Counties in Turkey Production

Wayne based data visualization firm Esri has produced an innovative new online map that shows where many of the traditional ingredients for your thanksgiving dinner may have originated. This included items such as cranberries, sweet potatoes, green beans and of course the star of the show, the turkey.

While most turkey production is centered in Arkansas, Missouri, Minnesota and North and South Carolina, a number of counties in the Philadelphia region are no slouches either when it comes to producing high quality, delicious holiday birds.

Chester County leads the way for the counties surrounding the city with 182,275 turkeys produced from twelve farms throughout the county, far above other local municipalities such as Montgomery County which only sold 50. The largest producer in the region however, is Lancaster County, which produced over 552,000 from a total of 49 farms.
