Herrs-Breast-Cancer-promo-link-615x250Herr Foods Inc. is showing its support for the millions of people affected by breast cancer by joining the legion of local and nationwide companies that are honoring National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by offering products with specially designed packaging to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” has now become one of the biggest networks of breast cancer events in the nation and leads a huge fund-raising effort that galvanizes people to help every fall.

This year, Herr’s is producing a limited edition pretzel, shaped like a ribbon, which will be sold in bright pink packaging. The Nottingham based snack company will donate 5 cents to the program sponsored by the American Cancer Society for every bag sold.

Bob Clark, vice president of marketing for Herr said that the company intends to make a $10,000 donation, the majority of which will be proceeds from the limited edition ribbon pretzel purchases.“We’ve been participating in this program for the last seven years,” he added. “It’s such a worthwhile program and an important cause.”

While the ribbon pretzels originate with Herr’s whole-grain recipe, the final specially designed product is enriched with even more grains, honey and flax seed. The limited edition snack also includes poppy, sesame and caraway seeds and has the additional benefit of less fat and more fiber than many other pretzels. Herr’s current product range includes 10 different varieties of pretzels. These specialty pretzels went on sale in September and will be in stores until stocks run out, most likely depending on demand, sometime in November.

Herr Foods president, Ed Herr, commented that “We are passionate about supporting philanthropic organizations that give back to the communities we serve. And we are proud to partner with the American Cancer Society’s ‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer’ program to help finish the fight and support all those who are affected by breast cancer.”

For the first time this year, Herr’s tasty ribbon-shaped pretzels, although with different packaging, were also adopted for two additional causes: National Autism Awareness month, and Paralyzed Veterans of America Awareness month, both of which coincided in April.
