The iconic  D’Ignazio’s Towne House in Media, open during the Truman era, has seen it all in its 65 years. The popular family owned and operated restaurant has been a favorite for many as a place to grab an after-work drink, have a relaxed family dinner, host a special event, and even welcome a future president. However, all good things must come to an end.

At the end of last month the D’Ignazio children, who inherited the restaurant from their parents, announced that they have decided to close and sell the space that has been the home of this special local restaurant to a group led by E. Kahn Development Corp. While the details of the sale have not been disclosed, local experts estimate that the four parcels believed to be involved in the sale, are worth around $2.2 million in the current market.

Although saddened by the closure, the Mayor of Media, Bob McMahon, pointed out that the closure would mean new opportunities for the town. “We know things are going to change at some point, and the Towne House is part of that,” he said in expressing his open-mind and excitement to hear developer Eli Kahn’s potential plans for the property.

With no definitive plans unveiled yet for the property’s future, Kahn did state to the Inquirer that the location would not continue in its current form as “one enormous restaurant”. He also used the opportunity to say that he was looking forward to building a long-term relationship with the town.”What’s not to like about Media?” he asked, indicating the base of employment and activity that come with being a county seat.

Judging by Kahn’s previous forays into similar territory, Media can look forward to a fruitful cooperation. In West Chester, the company has already completed a number of office and retail projects, including adding several developments to Exton and Malvern.

“These little towns are basically the epicenter of suburban urban living,” Kahn stated, “we’re going to become part of this community, and look forward to the next 65 years of that block.”
