Famous Eagles quarterback and NFL commentator Ron Jaworski is once again eluding an industry trend out to get him and setting up for a big score. But this time, the turf is not trodden by football stars. It welcomes local golf enthusiasts.

In the face of a golf industry decline, Jaworski is swinging big with an ever-expanding portfolio of golf courses, one of the latest of which was his purchase of the Downingtown Country Club this spring.

His immediate sand trap renovation there saved nearly $100,000 through the use of employees from his other clubs, a prime example why his business is getting results far better than par for the industry. “Once you put your own money in the deal, it’s amazing how quick you learn,” he said in a recent Fortune magazine feature.

“Jaworski’s former refuge from work now is his work,” the article explained. “With six courses in Pennsylvania and New Jersey …, Jaworski has employed the doggedness and eye for detail that characterize his TV scouting to turn a favorite hobby into three-plus decades of business success.”

In addition to leveraging his name recognition, the Ron Jaworski Golf properties are marked by strongly-held values that include ultimate playability, great affordability, lively sports-centered clubhouses and brisk pace of play.

They’re places where you can get away and be refreshed, which is precisely what he sought during his football career.

“I was away from the media, away from fans, away from talking about the game. It was where I would recharge my batteries.”

Read much more about how Jaworski fell in love with golf, how his golfing empire came to be — twice — and how he balances golf and football on Fortune here.
