Chester County Day Tour Enters its 75th Year

Started in 1936 by the Woman’s Auxiliary of Chester County Hospital to help raise funds for Chester County Hospital, Chester County Day House Tour is expecting close to 3,000 attendees for its 75th anniversary which will be held on October 3.

To help celebrate this milestone and bring a unique feel to this very special event, the organizers have attempted to have this year’s tour reflect its 1936 roots, when the tour included 22 homes in the Borough of West Chester.

While nowadays, the event usually highlights homes in different regions of the county each year, the upcoming tour will return exclusively to West Chester, with 20 homes within the Borough, with 10 in the north and 10 in the south open to visitors.

“We looked back to the first tour and its focus on West Chester homes and decided to return to that history,” said West Chester’s Debbie Hess, Chester County Day House Chairman.

Lehigh Valley Gets a New Truck Repair Center

Duie Pyle has opened a new $6.3 million fleet repair facility on Hoover Avenue in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, across from its truck terminal.

While Duie Pyle officials admit that to avoid creating an eyesore, the 13,600 square foot repair shop is hidden so well that some truckers have trouble locating it, it is actually within a stone’s throw of Airport Road and Route 22. This is a key location for the family-owned 91-year-old company as the new facility will service most of the company’s trucks, including those not based in the area.

“What it allows us to do is expand,” said Randy Swart, Chief Operating Officer, speaking from Duie Pyle’s headquarters in West Chester, “when we didn’t have the facility, we were hesitant to take on more business up there.”
