Lovers of healthy, organic food can rejoice as Exton is about to get its first Whole Foods Market.

A day after Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust Chief Executive, Joseph Coradino, announced plans to demolish Exton Square Mall’s Kmart building and replace it with a large format organic grocery store, PREIT revealed exactly which brand of store it was going to be.

The old Kmart building is actually going be replaced with a new Whole Foods Market which will cover around 55,000-square-feet.

The move was announced in the third quarter results report issued by Whole Foods Markets. While the earnings reported were a disappointing 43 cents per share on $3.63 billion in revenue compared to Wall Street expectations of 45 cents a share with a projected $3.69 billion in revenue, Whole Foods is moving aggressively to expand its presence, and improve its profitability.

Despite the ever tightening market, Whole Foods announced that they have acquired leases for four new stores and four new 365 by Whole Foods Market, the smaller version of a full store. Apart from the Exton location, Whole Foods Market will also open in Akron, Ohio, Charleston, South Carolina and Kirkland, Washington.

The supermarket chain already has 424 stores in the United States and is performing well in an increasingly competitive market with big grocers and discount grocers such as Wal-Mart, which is expanding its organic selection. Whole Foods’ ambitious expansion plan calls for it to have over 500 stores operating across the country by the end of 2017.

Reached for comment, a Whole Foods representative said because it is so early in the development process they are unable to provide specific information on when the location will open or the number of jobs it will create.

Jeff Turnas, president of 365 by Whole Foods Market said about the news, “We are really excited about the progress we have made with securing real estate in markets where there is high demand for both quality food and value in a convenient format.”
