Showing its continued commitment to providing healthcare services in Chester County, Penn Medicine opened a new outpatient facility near West Grove yesterday. Penn Medicine Southern Chester County met its June 1 opening date and will offer a full range of outpatient health services.

The 72,000-square-foot facility sits on 45 acres and was developed by healthcare development company Anchor Health Properties at a cost of $28 million.

The sprawling property is located at routes 1 and 796 and has nearby walking trails and meadows, extensive parking and landscaping.

Penn Medicine purchased Chester County Hospital eighteen months ago, which had already begun plans to expand in the area. Michael J. Duncan, president and CEO of Chester County Hospital, indicated several reasons for moving forward with the plans, citing an increased number of outpatient procedures in the field of healthcare and proximity to residents who are using their facilities.

“The highest growth rate was from southern Chester County. That was a clear indication to us that patients were choosing us and driving a long way to get here. We are just making it easier for them,” Duncan said.

Medical services available include laboratory, physical therapy and radiology while there will be some physician practice specialties opening immediately with others to follow in the summer and fall.

Penn Medicine opened another large outpatient center in Chester County in 2010, Penn Medicine Valley Forge – a 90,000-square-foot facility in Tredyffrin which opened at a cost of $30 million. Duncan went on to comment, “We are growing like crazy.”
