The United Way of Chester County, in partnership with CC Food Bank, is collecting PB&J supplies.

United Way Chester CountyInstead of a fancy catered meal to thank community members for supporting local charities, United Way of Chester County is spreading out a more practical buffet of America’s favorite staple sandwich — and amassing jars of peanut butter and jelly for those in need.

The unique twist on its annual summertime campaign closing luncheon unites an inseparable combination of simple foods with a natural combination of core local causes: the Community Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive for the benefit of the Chester County Food Bank.Chester County Food Bank

Groups from churches, schools, workplaces, families, neighborhoods, scouts, service clubs, sports teams and more are already starting to whip out grocery bags and collect any and all brands of peanut butter (or almond butter, hazelnut butter, sunflower butter, etc., for those allergic to peanuts) and flavors of jelly.

The quick and easy, grab-and-go lunch option is high in protein, vitamins and minerals, making it great for children and adults alike, the United Way stated in its announcement of the food drive.

The race to raise countless pounds of PB&J will last a month, with the official weigh-in and crowning of a food bank champion taking place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 12, at the Chester County Food Bank in the Eagleview Corporate Center in Exton. Gourmet peanut butter and jelly sandwiches will be served with drinks by the United Way staff, and tours of the food bank will be provided.
