Covered Bridge: Remembering Lincoln, Campaign Logos and A New Book By Patti Smith

Today marks the 150th anniversary of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The New York Times’ disunion blog has a great article from historian and author Martha Hodes on how Americans first dealt with the shock of the assassination. The article also details the ghoulish experiences of some who viewed the president in state in an age without advanced funerary techniques. You can read the article here.

 


 

Graphic designers on both sides of the aisle are taking serious issue with Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign logo. Featured above, experts say the logo and it’s poor reception won’t have much an effect on the campaign’s success or failure. Graphic designers, meanwhile, say the campign could have at least avoided placing primary colors next to each other. Read about it over at Vox.com.

Finally, rock icon and legend Patti Smith announced yesterday a follow-up to her non-fiction work “Just Kids”. “M Train” will feature more writing in addition to her photography. It’s set to hit shelves this fall. “Just Kids” detailed her long friendship with artist and photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, and won the National Book Award for non-fiction in 2010.
