West Chester’s downtown is such a hub of prosperity that it has garnered the Pennsylvania chapter of the American Planning Association’s first statewide Great Neighborhood recognition, according to a recent announcement.

“Downtown West Chester is a unique and memorable place that serves as a planning ‘best management practice’ to share with other communities,” chapter President Brian O’Leary said in the article.

The honor focuses on a neighborhood that “showcases historical/cultural diversity, fosters economic opportunity, promotes community involvement and demonstrates connectivity.”

And the Jan. 21 award presentation celebrated the West Chester Business Improvement District Board as well as the city’s mayor and council.
