Deb Shops Close 287 Stores Including Exton Location

By

Deb Shops in Exton, Pottstown, Wilmington and Wyomissing are among the retailer’s 287 stores that are closing and now offering 30 to 50 percent off all merchandise in going-out-of-business sales.

The 80-year-old Philadelphia-based women’s fashion discount retailer filed for Chapter 11 protection on Dec. 4.  The stores sell junior and plus size apparel. Store furniture, fixtures and equipment are also being sold.

“We thank our many customers and dedicated employees for their tremendous loyalty over the years and are very proud of our associates’ commitment to maintaining the high level of customer service we are known for throughout this transition,” said Dawn Robertson, CEO.

Gordon Brothers Group and Hilco Merchant Resources, who are overseeing the closing sales, are urging customers to shop early for the best deals.  Stores will remain open until all merchandise has been sold, and Deb Shops gift cards will be honored until March 8.

Deb Shops began in 1932 as JOY Hosiery, a discount hosiery and lingerie retailer. Since 1970, when the company took its new name, it focused on selling women’s and girls’ fashion and accessories.
