The PharmaTracker GPS system developed by Malvern-based 3SI Security Systems is helping businesses worldwide thwart prescription drug theft, and recently helped the Detroit Police Department catch burglars within 14 minutes.

3SI consultant and former police officer Joseph Loughlin here tells the story of  how the system worked in Detroit here.

PharmaTracker devices are hidden in pill bottles and retail for $795. Loughlin, who consults to 3SI from Portland, Maine, said in 2012 PharmaTracker devices played a part in 30 robberies resulting in more than 26 felony arrests with full recovery of trackers and most of the stolen narcotics.

“In addition, numerous robbery cases were cleared and many other crimes were solved because of arresting numerous repeat offenders,” said Loughlin. “The following year, 2013, there were less than 10 robberies statewide. PharmaTracker works.”
