Vertex Inc. executive Alex Smith has received the 2014 Main Line Chamber of Commerce Chairman’s Award.
Smith is vice president of communication and public affairs for the Berwyn company, a leading provider of corporate enterprise tax solutions and services and one of the region’s most successful family-owned technology companies.
The Chamber award recognizes a member who has demonstrated outstanding service to both the organization and to the community.
“I greatly appreciate the leadership that Alex Smith took of the Strategic Advisory Committee the past few years, helping to guide us to identify the talent and education initiative and to scope out what it meant for the Main Line Chamber, ” said Steven A. Scolari, chairman of the board, Main Line Chamber.
“This is a huge and important initiative, not only for the Chamber, but more importantly for our regional community.”
Smith has been with Vertex for more than 20 years and has been a Chamber board member since 2012. Prior to joining Vertex, Smith was an award-winning journalist and public relations professional.
“As a second-generation company that has been a part of the Main Line community for the last 35 years, Vertex has made it part of our corporate culture to give back and we encourage our employees to volunteer in order to make a real difference in our community,” said Jeff Westphal, Vertex president and CEO, in congratulating Smith.
