A Malvern-based maker of discrete semiconductors and passive components has soldered on yet another major connection to its global electronics brand. Vishay Intertechnology has paid $180 million to acquire almost 89 percent of the outstanding shares of Taiwanese circuit design firm Capella Microsystems, with plans to buy up the rest by January.

“Capella adds crucial technological capabilities to our successful and growing opto business that we did not have in-house,” President and CEO Gerald Paul said in a Philadelphia Business Journal article. “It will considerably strengthen Vishay’s position in the fast-growing market for optical sensors and significantly reduce our time to market for these products.”

The latest in a company history filled with buyouts is projected to add an immediate $2 million boost to quarterly revenues, with more to be disclosed in the company’s next earnings report. Vishay has previously acquired brand names Dale, Sfernice, Draloric, Sprague, Vitramon, Siliconix, General Semiconductor, BCcomponents and Beyschlag.
