Berwyn’s Doctor’s Best Immediate Medical Care Exemplifies New Urgent Care Trend

A growing chorus of frustration about unmet health care needs, particularly in the evening and on weekends, is creating demand for a new kind of medical care, and Berwyn’s Doctor’s Best Immediate Medical Care exemplifies the trending new breed, called urgent care.

“When I worked in the ER, we saw patients coming in for colds because their primary care doctors were too busy to see them,” Dr. Geoff Winkley said in a Main Line Today article. “That’s not good for the patients or the ERs.”

Winkley’s urgent care model focuses on serving patients in those after-hours — all walk-ins, because he doesn’t do appointments. He accepts insurance and sees a lot of return patients, though he doesn’t offer preventative care and long-term case management.

And if a medical need is truly an emergency “beyond the scope of what our facilities can treat, we get them to the nearest emergency room as quickly as possible.”
