PennDOT’s Route 202 Project Means Traffic Alerts

By

Working the night shift? Here’s a commuter alert for those who travel Route 202.

There are nighttime lane closures this week on the northbound U.S. Route 202 ramps leading to Interstate 76 East in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, and in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County.

This is for pavement patching and ramp work, part of the $4.4 million project that began June 23. PennDOT is repairing and resurfacing Routes 202 and 422 where the two expressways connect. The improvement project is financed from Act 89, the state’s landmark transportation plan.

July 10-11 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., lane closures are scheduled on the northbound Route 202 ramp to Route 422 West. Motorists are advised to use extra care when driving through the Route 202 work areas and to allow additional time for travel as slowdowns may occur during construction. The work schedule is weather dependent and may also be postponed to Saturday night.

Allan A. Myers, LP of Montgomery County is general contractor on the $4,395,855 contract and will work through late November to improve Routes 202 and 422 by removing areas of deteriorating concrete, patching, and paving both highways and four ramps with asphalt.

The pavement improvement plan covers Route 202 between Route 252 (Valley Forge Road) and I-76; Route 422 between Route 202 and Route 23; and the Route 202 North ramp to I-76 East, Route 422 East ramp to I-76 East, Route 202 North ramp to Route 422 West, and Route 202 South ramp to Route 422 West.

PennDOT says Act 89 funding is making significant progress in addressing major roadway, bridge and transit needs, and the state will resurface 100 miles of rough pavement and rehabilitate 28 deteriorated bridges in the five-county Philadelphia area. By its fifth year, Act 89 will generate an additional $2.3 billion to $2.4 billion a year in added statewide transportation investment across all modes.
