Brandywine Health Foundation’s ‘Yellow House’ Breaks Ground On Big Expansion
More than 30 local leaders and volunteers turned the first shovelfuls of soil on a project that will turn gently used clothing and household goods into a better life and future for community members in Downingtown and Coatesville.
The contingent of Brandywine Consignment Shop supporters gathered last Wednesday for the much-anticipated groundbreaking ceremony, which set off a countdown toward the autumn re-opening of a Little Yellow House that’s twice as large and makes twice the positive impact on the health of local families through its contribution to the Brandywine Health Foundation, the shop’s board President Dale Polite told the Downingtown Times for an article covering the event.
“Our generous volunteers and bargain-hunting consigners and shoppers play a vital role in enabling the foundation to make generous grants to area non-profit organizations housed at the Brandywine Center in Coatesville, and we are grateful for their remarkable support,” Brandywine Health Foundation President and CEO Frances Sheehan said in the report.
The 20-year-old fixture of the Downingtown community runs on a small staff and the generosity of more than 100 volunteers. Its new facility aims to expand consigning capabilities, offer a wider variety of merchandise, allow more parking and bump up its $50,000-a-year donation to the foundation by at least another $50,000.
