Aqua America’s executive vice president Christopher Franklin has taken the reigns at Aqua.

There’s no learning curve needed for the new CEO of Bryn Mawr’s expansive water utility; Christopher H. Franklin has been around as long as retiring Aqua America CEO Nicholas DeBenedictis and has been nearly as involved in the company’s transformation from Philadelphia Suburban Water to an eight-state operation approaching $1 billion in annual revenue.

“I am confident he’s the best person to ensure that the company will continue its growth strategy and build on its financial strength,” DeBenedictis said in a Philly.com report of the executive announcement.

Franklin is a West Chester University alum who has been with the firm since 1992 and currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of its water and wastewater operations. He was the unanimous choice of board members, who interviewed numerous candidates from within and outside the company, and will take over CEO duties on July 1.

“Ultimately, they didn’t have to look too far,” DeBenedictis added.
