Neighborly Competition Between Endo and Scilex Heats Up For Pain Patches

By

Money is flowing in Malvern for a competitor to the Lidoderm lidocaine patch made by Endo, whose U.S. headquarters is just 2.5 miles away from the upstart Scilex Pharmaceuticals.

The cross-town rivalry is already heating up, with Lidoderm’s patent expiring soon and Scilex’s development bolstered by a recent influx of $5 million from a private stock sale, according to news reported by the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The competitor is Ztlido, a patch formulated in a cutting-edge single-layer analgesic tape and needing only “a fraction of the dose of lidocaine found in Lidoderm,” the article stated.

“It’s so thin — it’s like a Band-Aid, only it has lidocaine in it,” Scilex Co-Founder and CEO Anthony Mack said in the report.

Ztlido is still in the clinical testing phase and will need to gain Food and Drug Administration approval before hitting the market.
