Jessica Keogh, a special education teacher in the West Chester Area School District, has "made it her mission to empower others and create opportunities for people of all abilities."

Jessica Keogh, a special education teacher at Fugett Middle School in the West Chester Area School District, received a nice surprise from The Hartford earlier this week.

The insurance company gifted the educator, who has a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, a custom-fit recumbent bicycle.

Keogh is a relentless advocate for people with disabilities and helps them overcome their challenges as a special education teacher. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree, focusing on ways to improve the education system for people with disabilities.

The recumbent bicycle will help her experience the transformative power of sport for years to come, as she rides alongside her family and friends.

“Jessica has made it her mission to empower others and create opportunities for people of all abilities,” said State Sen. Carolyn Comitta. “She is an inspiration in pushing beyond what’s considered possible. I look forward to seeing all she can continue to achieve.”

The Hartford, which has been inspiring human achievement through adaptive sports for nearly three decades, also donated a total of $70,000 to the Pennsylvania Center for Adaptive Sports and the IM ABLE Foundation. The two nonprofits are working on empowering lives through adaptive sports.
