Chester County Hospital Wins Two Awards

The staff of Chester County Hospital have been recognized with two prestigious awards.

First, the hospital was one of only 74 U.S. health care facilities given the 2013 Outstanding Achievement Award by the American College of Surgeons‘ (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC). The national honor acknowledges cancer programs that achieve excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.

Secondly, the hospital’s Medic 91 paramedic service received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® EMS Bronze Award recognizing its commitment and success in implementing quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who suffer a severe heart attack known as a STEMI (ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction).

Medic 91 is dedicated to making our unit among the best in the country, and the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline program is helping us accomplish that by implementing processes for improving STEMI systems of care with the goal of improving the quality of care for all STEMI patients,” said Michael D. Barber, hospital president/COO. “We are pleased to be recognized for our dedication and achievements in emergency medical care for STEMI patients.”

As for the Commission on Cancer award, the hospital’s cancer program was evaluated on 34 program and commendation standards. The hospital received commendation ratings in all seven commendation standards and a compliance rating for each of the 34 other standards.

Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital has grown into a 245-bed acute care facility based in West Chester. It also has a system of outpatient locations in Exton, West Goshen, New Garden, Jennersville and Kennett Square. The hospital joined Penn Medicine in 2013.

In addition to inpatient medical/surgical services, the hospital offers home health, hospice and skilled nursing care; occupational medicine; outpatient laboratory, radiology and physical therapy services; an ob/gyn clinic for the underserved; wound care; and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
