After six years as a roaming pizza operation, Ben and Samantha Tobin have built Mezzaluna KSQ into one of the more distinctive pizzerias in Chester County and the wider region, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The couple started their business firing pies at breweries, wineries, and pop-ups around the county, before opening their brick-and-mortar shop in June 2024.
The shop, which seats around 20, has quickly built a local following and earned credibility on the national pizza competition circuit. Both owners have placed in the International Pizza Challenge in recent years, a notable achievement for a small-town operation.
Ben Tobin’s accolades include getting second place in the Northeast, sixth place in the world in the nontraditional division in 2023, sixth place at the World’s Best Cheese Slice at the Pizza & Pasta Expo the same year, and a recent induction into the World Pizza Champions team.
In the New York-style cheese category of the International Pizza Challenge, Samantha Tobin ranked ninth in the Northeast and 24th overall last year, then improved to third in the Northeast and eighth overall this year.
