Joanna Wexler, currently assistant superintendent in the Great Valley School District, has been hired as the next superintendent of the Central Bucks School District, writes Maddie Hanna for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Set to take over on July 1, Wexler will serve under a five-year contract with a starting salary of $255,000. She succeeds former Superintendent Steven Yanni, who was fired following his handling of alleged abuse in a special education classroom at an elementary school.
Before becoming assistant superintendent in Great Valley in 2020, Wexler worked for six years as the district’s director of special education and student services in Chester County.
“From the very beginning of the process, Dr. Wexler’s resume stood out,” said Central Bucks board president Heather Reynolds, adding that special education is “an area where strong leadership and deep expertise are not just valuable, but essential.”
Reynolds noted that Wexler demonstrated a strong sense of purpose throughout the interview process and described her honesty as “refreshing and very much welcomed.”
The nine-member board voted 8-1 to approve her appointment.
Wexler thanked the board “for trusting me and putting confidence in me as your next superintendent.”
