Birchrunville’s Birchrunville Store Cafe boasts a unique history as both a cafe and a post office, writes staff for World Atlas.
The cafe has seen various uses and occupants in its century of operation. Originally constructed in 1898, the building originally served as a creamery.
The business later pivoted to serving as a general store, complete with a functioning post office.
Over 70 years later, the building became a cafe in the 1970s. Chef Francis Pascal officially launched the Birchrunville Store Café in 1999, offering a full menu complete with seasonal dishes.
As for design and aesthetic, the original sign and some interior items have been restored from its time as a general store. Rustic, antique decor creates a welcome atmosphere for a cozy dining experience.
Despite more recent refurbishments, the cafe still honors its origins by continuing to function as a working post office.
The cafe is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 6 to 11 PM, and requires reservations. The menu changes weekly, with special dishes offered each night.
They also accommodates private parties and events for up to 40 guests. For private events, guests can work personally with Chef Pascal to create a custom menu with passed appetizers and a four-course sit-down meal.
