After overhauling its sales strategy, West Chester-based Verrica Pharmaceuticals more than doubled revenues from Ycanth, its flagship treatment for skin diseases, compared with last year, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The biopharmaceutical company’s drug-device combination product generated $15.3 million in sales in 2025, up 130 percent from $6.6 million the year before.
The marketing shift for Ycanth, a treatment for molluscum contagiosum, was led by Jayson Rieger, hired as CEO in November 2024. A chemist, Rieger helped develop the treatment and was among Verrica’s earliest investors.
“I got asked to come and run this company because I love the science and the safety and efficacy [of Ycanth] and the value it brings to the patients,” he said.
His approach was aimed at changing the standard guidance for molluscum contagiosum, which usually had physicians telling patients to wait a year to see if the condition would resolve on its own. He extended outreach to both pediatricians and dermatologists and transitioned from direct doctor sales to a pharmacy-focused distribution model.
Verrica now plans to grow Ycanth’s global market and submit a new drug application in Europe within the next year.
