Airport Just Outside of Bucks County Unaffected by TSA Staffing Shortages

While PHL is struggling with TSA staffing shortages, Trenton-Mercer Airport remains operational, with a special option for Philly flyers.

While Philadelphia International Airport has had to temporarily close security checkpoints due to TSA staffing shortages, the Trenton-Mercer Airport has continued to operate as usual, writes Michele Haddon for the Bucks County Courier Times

TSA staffing shortages have persisted as a result of the current partial government shutdown, resulting in longer wait times for flyers.

According to Sam Weiss, deputy director of communication for Mercer County, the small, county-owned airport in Ewing, N.J., hasn’t experienced any staffing issues.

While the TSA sometimes pulls staff from Trenton-Mercer for the Newark International Airport during shortages, Weiss said that there are currently no plans to redistribute a larger number of their workers.

Individuals flying through PHL can take advantage of Trenton-Mercer’s Landline Shuttle, allowing flyers to avoid long waits by checking in at the New Jersey airport.

“You park, check bags, and go through security [here], and then take a shuttle to [Philadelphia], where you can enter the airport without needing to go through security there,” Weiss said.

The Landline Shuttle is available to all American Airlines customers.

According to the Landline’s website, the shuttle service can be booked by entering Trenton-Mercer as your destination or origin and then choosing an itinerary with Landline
