40-Acre Historic Property Called Summer Duck Lane Restored in Chester County

A couple restored a 1638 farmhouse on 40 scenic acres in Chester County, blending historic charm with modern living.

In West Marlborough Township, a 40-acre property known as Summer Duck Lane blends historic charm with thoughtful restoration, writes Laurel Anderson for County Lines Magazine

First registered in 1638 through a William Penn land grant, the land has deep local roots and was once part of the Pomeroy & Newark Railroad line.

Owners Jon and Kay Ireland, longtime Chester County residents, transformed the overgrown property into a warm, livable home.

“The place was completely overgrown, with trees growing out of the porch,” Jon said. With help from local contractors and their own hands-on work, they preserved and repurposed original materials, including barn stone and chestnut beams.

The 17th-century Penn stone farmhouse now features a log-cabin-style addition, complete with a great room, eat-in kitchen, and second-floor suite. Period elements like fieldstone fireplaces and antique hardware blend seamlessly with modern amenities such as high ceilings, updated baths, and a whole-house generator.

With its mix of history, craftsmanship, and natural beauty, Summer Duck Lane is a rare Chester County gem.
