Independence Blue Cross recently hosted its second annual Quality Cup event at the company’s Philadelphia headquarters.

At the event, seven primary care practices were recognized with the Quality Cup award for their outstanding performance in delivering quality care. This year’s winners were:

Small Groups (less than 20,000 IBX members)

Large Groups (20,000 or more IBX members)

  • Main Line Health: Highest Performing Overall Commercial and Medicare Advantage
  • Jefferson Health: Highest Performing Commercial and Highest Performing Medicare Advantage

Independent Practice

Most Improved

“This year’s winning practices truly demonstrate what it means to put patients at the center of care,” said Dr. Rodrigo Cerdá, IBX’s Senior Vice President of Health Services and Chief Medical Officer. “From offering same-day mammograms to bringing diabetic eye exams directly to patients, the winning practices use smart, practical ways to meet patients where they are. Their efforts show how strong a commitment they have to clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and meaningful patient engagement. It was an honor to celebrate the work of our primary care practices with healthcare leaders from across the region.”

The award is based on IBX’s Quality Incentive Payment System and Total Value of Care programs, which evaluate primary care practices and the health systems they are a part of on standardized, evidence-based care measures like preventive cancer screenings, blood pressure control, and more. Results are risk-adjusted to ensure fairness across diverse patient populations.

“Primary care practices play a vital role in our provider network,” said Dr. Cerdá. “Their focus on preventive care and chronic condition management helps to keep our members and the community healthy. We continue to see numbers in these two areas improve. For example, in 2024, IBX saw a 2.4 percent improvement in controlling blood pressure and a four percent rise in colorectal cancer screenings among the patients who see primary care doctors in its network.”
